What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed in the jawbone and serves as a root, i.e. a support for a future artificial tooth (crown, bridge or prosthesis). Dental implants are made of pure titanium, a completely biocompatible and strong material. This material has a high biocompatible strength with the bone system to replace a missing tooth. It replaces the missing tooth or teeth in a fixed and permanent manner, and allows the comfort and aesthetics of natural teeth to be restored. Dentures and bridges attached to dental implants will not move in the mouth, which is a great advantage during chewing and speaking. Dental implants are used to replace lost or damaged teeth, without the need for partial dentures or dental bridges. The patient needs sufficient bone volume to be firmly implanted. Therefore, the quantity and quality of the bone must be assessed by means of X-ray examinations before a dental implant is placed. If there is not enough bone, pre-implant treatment may be required at our dental clinic in Türkiye, such as an intrasinus bone graft or increasing the height of the sub-sinus bone or other treatment, especially in the upper jaw.
First visit: After the consultation and a personal examination, the dentist will draw up a treatment plan. One or more dental implants can be placed under local anaesthetic, just like a simple tooth extraction. Afterwards, a healing period of 4 months is required for bone integration. A stay of 4 to 5 days is therefore necessary for the first time.
Second stay: After about 4 months, an abutment will be screwed on each dental implant, impressions will be taken and sent to the laboratory for the production of the dentures. A stay of at least 7 days is therefore necessary for the loading of the dental implants.
In our dental clinic in Türkiye, dental implants are placed in 2 stays. A waiting period of a few months, a period of osseointegration (integration of the screw into the bone) is necessary between the placement of the implant and the loading of the implant (placement of the prosthesis).
The placement of dental implants is not a painful procedure. In the majority of cases there is no pain either during or after the procedure. If the patient follows the dentist’s advice, the placement of the dental implant can be compared to a simple tooth extraction.
If only one tooth is missing, a dental implant is the best solution because it is not necessary to touch the neighbouring healthy teeth. If several teeth are missing, in order to be able to place a dental bridge, the solution is a dental implant which will allow the prosthesis to be fixed more easily. Dental implants prevent bone resorption after tooth loss.
If all the teeth are missing, with the placement of 4 to 6 dental implants, it is possible to fix a fixed prosthesis such as an All-On-4 ® or a complete bridge. Just a few dental implants can be used to stabilise a denture that will not move when eating or speaking. This gives a more comfortable and natural feeling.
Veneers and Dental Crowns
A dental veneer is an ultra-thin film of ceramic or composite material that is placed on the front of the tooth and can correct a wide range of cosmetic imperfections. Dental veneers can be used to correct the colour of your teeth, their crowding, a fracture and the wear of your teeth. Dental veneers are made to measure. Dental veneers offer a permanent solution to severe discolouration, gaps and damaged teeth to achieve a broad "Hollywood Smile". A stay of at least 6 to 7 days is therefore necessary depending on the number of veneers or dental crowns to be fitted. The fitting of dental veneers is possible if your teeth are perfectly aligned. This treatment is not recommended for people suffering from bruxism or whose teeth are slightly out of alignment. In this case it would be preferable to place crowns to obtain the same result. The procedure is simple, painless and extremely durable. Before applying a permanent veneer, the dentist must prepare the tooth. Gingivoplasty is the operation to change the shape of the gums when they have an unusual or abnormal shape. Gingivectomy is the removal of excess gum tissue. Gum surgery for your teeth supporting your veneers or crowns is sometimes necessary before they are fitted.
Other aesthetic dental treatments are offered in our dental clinic
Dental veneers are not possible for people whose teeth are misshapen or slightly misaligned. In this case, dental crowns are used and also when a missing tooth is replaced by relying on the two adjacent healthy teeth. A dental bridge consists of at least three elements to replace the missing tooth, the two abutments and the bridge. One of the most popular is professional tooth whitening, which is reasonably priced and requires only a one-hour session to achieve a satisfactory result. Sometimes it is used to whiten the teeth of the jaw that has not been treated with veneers or crowns to obtain a more homogeneous result. After a cleaning and scaling of your teeth, we proceed to a tooth whitening by the combination of the application of a hydrogen peroxide gel and the exposure to the laser light.
